Staying Safe & Comfortable in the Bush
Your guide to an unforgettable and secure safari experience.
A safari in the African bush is an experience like no other, offering intimate encounters with wildlife and immersion in stunning natural landscapes. To ensure your adventure is both magical and safe, here are some essential tips for your time in the wild with Mombasa Air Safari.
Your safari guides are highly trained and experienced. Their knowledge of animal behavior and the local environment is invaluable. Always follow their instructions for your safety and to enhance your wildlife viewing experience.
Maintain a respectful distance from animals. Never attempt to feed or touch them. Keep noise levels low to avoid disturbing wildlife. Stay inside your vehicle during game drives unless your guide says it's safe.
Many safari camps are unfenced, allowing wildlife to roam freely. Always be aware of your surroundings. At night, use a flashlight and request an escort from a camp staff member when moving between your tent and common areas.
Wear neutral-colored clothing (khaki, green, brown) to blend in with the environment. Layers are essential as temperatures can vary significantly from cool mornings/evenings to hot middays. Comfortable, closed walking shoes are a must.
Protect yourself from mosquitoes and other insects, especially during dawn and dusk. Use a good quality insect repellent (containing DEET if possible) and wear long-sleeved shirts and trousers in the evenings.
The African sun can be intense, even on cloudy days. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and apply high-SPF sunscreen regularly. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated, especially during game drives.
One of the most magical aspects of a bush safari is the symphony of sounds at night – distant lion roars, hyena calls, or the chirping of crickets. Enjoy this unique soundtrack of the African wilderness (from the safety of your tent!).
Help us preserve the pristine environments we visit. Do not litter, stay on designated paths, and avoid taking any natural souvenirs (like feathers, bones, or plants) from the parks and reserves.
