Game viewing is in national parks and reserves or private conservancies. The government regulated game parks and reserves of Kenya, both on land and underwater, are rated amongst the best in Africa and encompass a huge and diverse range of wildlife and scenery. Government protected area include the famous and much documented Masai Mara and the vast wilderness area of Tsavo as well as lesser known forests. Kenya has over 40 parks and reserves set aside for the conservation of wildlife and habitat. The government regulated parks and reserves have entrance fees, entrance gates and constructed roads with game ranger patrols and are often home to sizable luxury lodges and tented camps. In addition private conservancies or game sanctuaries have been created for the preservation of wildlife and ethnic lifestyles, and for the enrichment of local communities. These are more likely to have small privately run luxury camps, ranch houses and community based projects. This is where the old lifestyle of Kenya is still to be found as families often own the ranches and homesteads and act as your hosts. Both public and private game viewing areas are fascinating and each has individual and distinctive features and habitat with a stunning variety of animal and birds. In addition the coast has three superb Marine parks with lovely corals and tropical species of colourful fish. |
