SHIMBA HILLS LODGE ***
Set discreetly in the heart of an ancient tropical rain forest, Shimba is constructed from indigenous timber that blends perfectly into the surrounding forest vegetation. It is the only tree hotel on the Kenyan coast, and shares this scenic home with herds of sable antelope, elephant, buffalo, civet and genet cat - all popular at the floodlit waterhole. All thirty rooms (not en suite) are quite small but well designed with big windows and vantage points that overlook the waterhole. The meals here are of a reasonable standard and service friendly.
TRAVELLERS MWALUGANJE ELEPHANT CAMP ***
Travellers Mwaluganje Elephant Camp is located in the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, in the Mwaluganje Hills a 45 minutes drive from Mombasa.
The camp is set along the shoulder of a low hill facing a traditional elephant trail, allowing guests to watch the elephants from the comfort of their well-appointed luxury tents.
The camp consists of a 20 twin-bedded tents that have each a private timber veranda, cold and hot shower, WC and washbasin and they are comfortably furnished.
